hello, welcome to internal contexts
this is an online forum for public discussion, that temporarily will be twinned by a physical forum happening during the 14th and 15th of august 2017 in London, UK (details below), and will serve as starting engine for the latter, as much as continuation of it.
all welcome to discuss in a constructive manner, either online or physically.
these forums are a space to question the language we use to refer to perception.
historically, the philosophical, educational and medical linguistic terms employed to communicate about the bodily tools used in processing the world around us, inadvertently limit and shape what we know about how our bodies function - a subject that permeates everything else we know. because these terms, these verbal codes, these definitions and these lines of thought are so ingrained in our western culture, our understanding of our environment, and as such our own physiology, is fundamentally biased and ought to be questioned.
isn't it interesting how everyone pilots a spacecraft, yet barely anyone understands how it really works?
the reason for this is not just that scientists haven’t made enough enlightening discoveries yet, but essentially the way we communicate about it.
the current revolution in communication needs a revolution in language: verbal and otherwise.
navigating the forum online:
out of this thread, there's another board titled discussion, with threads to subjects proposed around the three contexts mentioned above: educational, philosophical and medical. you may post to existing threads, start a new thread within these contexts, or bring up new ones; the more points of view and analyses the better. the navigation board and thread (this one) will accommodate questions related to practicalities of internal contexts and forum issues.
everyone is welcome to the forum; special guests will appear in the discussions.
navigating the physical forum:
Guest Projects welcomes Lost Senses, a month-long platform for invited artists to explore together with the audience contemporary themes around perception. housed in Guest Projects' headquarters, Sunbury House, 1 Andrews Road London E8 4QL, UK, Lost Senses will be on from the 7th of august to the 4th of september 2017; doors open daily to the public.
internal contexts will happen live and physically on the 14th and 15th of august. audience will be invited both days at any time, though it is encouraged to attend for the entire day. as on the online forum, special guests will contribute; invited upon their critical thinking and expertise on the many fields and from the many points of view sourcing the subject.
both days will have the same structure, though inevitably a different outcome. the schedule of the day is as follows:
from 10am to 1pm - verbal forum: the people’s language
open discussion of themes touched upon and brought up on the forum online, presentation of the topic. collective probing of the definitions we know about our physical bodies and their perception of the world.
from 1pm to 2pm - break
from 2pm to 6pm - body forum: everybody embodies
into proprioception, with its own language. a collective empirical exploration of this sense and the strategies we could come up with to gain permanent, accurate awareness of it; where could this lead to?
all bodies perform this exploration in a multi sensory environment that shifts as the evening moves along. (more details to follow)
